  • Monday Music: Baby Please Don’t Go

    March 9th, 2009 by HiBob

Monday Music offers a random Robert track for your listening excitement.

Let’s have another Priory cut today, this one from September 25, 1999. It’s a fast little tune called “Baby Please Don’t Go”. It was originally recorded in 1935 by Big Joe Williams, a Delta Bluesman also known for recording “Crawlin’ King Snake” in 1941. “Baby Please Don’t Go” has become something of a rock standard played by everyone from Van Morrison to Ted Nugent. It’s one of those songs that fits in with any genre and has an ageless quality. Play it fast!

    Monday Music: Morning Dew

    March 2nd, 2009 by HiBob

Monday Music offers a random Robert track for your listening flashbacks.

Today we have Morning Dew from September 1999 with Priory of Brion. Written by Bonnie Dobson and subsequently recorded by Tim Rose, Morning Dew became a staple in the Greatful Dead repitoire. The Priory version of Morning Dew is a moody, jazzy piece played slow. In contrast, the song as played during the Dreamland tour was much faster. I think I prefer the Strange Sensation version, but this one has a lot of merit, too.

    Monday Music: Darkness, Darkness

    February 2nd, 2009 by HiBob

Monday Music offers a random Robert track for your listening fancy.

It’s another Priory of Brion track this Monday. From May 20, 2000 Somerset (UK). Darkness, Darkness was originally recorded by Jesse Colin Young and the Youngbloods. The original version is a bit lighter. As always, Robert “spooked it up a bit” and added that tinge of … um… darkness.

    Monday Music: Bluebird

    January 26th, 2009 by HiBob

Monday Music offers a random Robert track for your listening perusal.

We’re live again this Monday. This time it’s a song from Priory of Brion, recorded on May 20, 2000. Robert tells an amusing story about Stephen Stills before launching into what he calls one of his favorite songs, “Bluebird”. Robert performed this song off and on over time, but the Priory treatment was jazzier and yet somewhat more exuberent than most of the other performances.
