Monday Music offers a random Robert track for your listening fancy.
It’s another Priory of Brion track this Monday. From May 20, 2000 Somerset (UK). Darkness, Darkness was originally recorded by Jesse Colin Young
and the Youngbloods. The original version is a bit lighter. As always, Robert “spooked it up a bit” and added that tinge of … um… darkness.

Monday Music offers a random Robert track for your listening perusal.
We’re live again this Monday. This time it’s a song from Priory of Brion, recorded on May 20, 2000. Robert tells an amusing story about Stephen Stills before launching into what he calls one of his favorite songs, “Bluebird”. Robert performed this song off and on over time, but the Priory treatment was jazzier and yet somewhat more exuberent than most of the other performances.

Monday Music offers a random Robert track for your listening edification.
It’s another live track today–one very early in Robert’s solo career. The show was April 21, 1981 at the Blue Note Club. It’s only the fifth solo outing of the 80s and Robert was doing lots of blues and rockabilly numbers at these shows. This track is “I Can’t Be Satisfied”. It’s been recorded by many but was originally written by Muddy Waters
in 1948.

Monday Music offers a random Robert track for your listening fun.
Today’s track is a live track from the Raising Sand tour. The show was Columbia, MD (Washington DC), June 13, 2008. The song is “Nothin’” from the Raising Sand album. It’s interesting to follow specific songs through a tour because they take on subtle changes as time goes by. At this point in the tour, “Nothin’” is a bit faster tempo than say, the first night at the Palace in April. “Nothin’” is another of my favorite tracks from “Raising Sand”.

Today’s track is a live track from October 1983. Horizontal Departure (from Principle of Moments
) has always been a favorite of mine. I can’t really say why. But then it’s hard to explain enjoyment sometimes.

Monday Music offers a random Robert track for your listening joyfulness.
Today’s song is a live version of “Win My Trainfare Home”. This one comes from Helsinki, Finland on November 10, 2002. It runs the gamut from smooth to psychedelic to almost trance! Lots of cool scat singing on Robert’s part, too.

Monday Music offers a random Robert track for your listening happiness.
Today’s song is a live version of Rockin’ at Midnight. It was recorded in 1985 at the Birmingham NEC and you can find the track on the remastered version of The Honeydrippers, Vol. 1
as a bonus track.
This was always the track that Robert had intended to be the representative for the Honeydrippers album, but stations kept playing Sea of Love. Prior to the album coming out my local radio station played the song as a contest–you had to guess the singer. I almost wrecked hearing Robert’s voice blasting out of the speakers, but of course no cell phone in those days!
The remastered Honeydrippers album is of course also part of the Nine Lives Box Set. If you don’t have this yet go get it! Especially if you’re just discovering Robert’s solo music.

Monday Music offers a random Robert track for your listening amusement.
Today’s track is from the 2004 MAS Records promo. In keeping with Robert’s early trend of not being billed in show listings, this track is credited to “Johnny Volcano”. But some voices are just so disctinctive they can’t be hidden.

Today is a live track from February 14, 2007. Robert does an exuberant version of the Ray Charles classic “What’d I Say”. It’s obvious he’s having a great time singing it and getting the audience involved.
Recorded in 1959, “What’d I Say” became an iconic track for Ray Charles
as well as for R&B in general. Atlantic Records founder, the late Ahmet Ertegun, even titled his history of the label What’d I Say
.

Today’s song is sort of a memory on another level. I chose it because it features drummer Michael Lee who passed away earlier this week, reportedly from a seizure. Lee appeared on two tracks on Fate of Nations. On Network News he shared drumming duties with Chris Hughes. For Memory Song he is the only credited drummer.
