  • 2009 Fundraiser Ends Soon, Still Short 20

    June 29th, 2009 by HiBob

The 2009 fundraiser will end Friday, July 3 and we’re still at $20 from goal. Of course you can donate all year round, but the fundraiser is designed to generate the yearly fees paid on the basic operations of the website. To read more about that, check out my blog entry on the subject.

There’s still a week to make the goal so I’m optimistic. But I do understand in these tough economic times donating to a website, no matter how much you enjoy or visit it, might be low on the priority list.

What will happen if we fall short of the goal this year? Well, on the surface not a lot that you might notice. The site will probably go to semi-annual payments so that it will be two smaller chunks. This ultimately increases the amount to be paid, but it makes the payments easier to cover. Some other behind the scenes items might fall by the wayside as well. I get a volume of email daily which I try to answer within 24 hours. That schedule may change to a once weekly email answering so my resources can be focused elsewhere, and fewer of the emails may get answered.

For the next fundraiser, should it also fall short, I might put some areas of the site as subscription-based. Sections like the fan fiction and the fan art get a lot of traffic and those would be the areas that would become subscriber-based. Maybe 3 to 5 bucks a year. A small amount but if all the regular visitors would subscribe, it would take up the slack from donations. The upside to making these areas subscriber-based would be that more content would be added there on a regular basis.

We shall see what the next week, and the next year bring. Hopefully the economy will pick up!

To see the current donor list, look here. Whether it be $2 or $100, all donations are well appreciated.
