The March Photo is ready for captions.

The March desktop calendar is also ready. The square version works well on standard monitors. The oblong one is better suited for Apple displays on newer iMacs and powerbooks as well as cinema displays. Just save and install as you would any wallpaper. The calendars are available for a limited time so get them early! Enjoy.

    Monday Music: Skip’s Song

    February 23rd, 2009 by HiBob

Monday Music offers a random Robert track for your listening fulfillment.

Today’s track is live from Seattle, September 25, 2005. Skip’s Song is one of my favorites from “Dreamland”. This is the only live version I’ve heard so far and Robert and Strange Sensation give it a suitably sixties hippy vibe here. It’s a cover of a Moby Grape tune.

Alison and Viktor Krauss Covering Big Log

    February 19th, 2009 by HiBob

By now we’re all used to hearing Alison Krauss sing with Robert Plant, but you may not have heard her singing Plant before Raising Sand. In 2004, she appeared on her brother Viktor Krauss’ Far from Enough album singing “Big Log”. You’ve heard Alison mention her brother in several interviews for Raising Sand over the last year.

I’m not generally a fan of other people doing Robert’s songs unless Robert is also singing along, but I do like this version of Big Log. Alison and Viktor do a pretty close rendition of the song. Big Log is a wistful, lonesome song to begin with, but Alison’s vocals make it seem more so.

    Five, count ‘em FIVE redux

    February 8th, 2009 by HiBob

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss made it a clean sweep on February 8, 2009. They took home 5 Grammys–one for every category they were nominated in:

Album of the Year for Raising Sand
Pop Collaboration with Vocals for Rich Woman
Record of the Year for Please Read the Letter
Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for Killing the Blues
Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album for Raising Sand

Add that to the Grammy already won last year for Gone Gone Gone, that’s six for Raising Sand.

These honors are well deserved. Congratulations to Robert and Alison!
