Monday Music offers a random Robert track for your listening fun.
Today is a live track from February 14, 2007. Robert does an exuberant version of the Ray Charles classic “What’d I Say”. It’s obvious he’s having a great time singing it and getting the audience involved.
Recorded in 1959, “What’d I Say” became an iconic track for Ray Charles
as well as for R&B in general. Atlantic Records founder, the late Ahmet Ertegun, even titled his history of the label What’d I Say
.

Robert and Alison came away with five Grammy nominations this year, all well deserved. While Robert hasn’t historically paid that much attention to awards and kudos like this, I’m glad to see the project actually getting the recognition it deserves from the Grammy organization. And keep in mind they’ve already won a grammy for Gone Gone Gone, which made the cut in time to be nominated last year.
While the pundits say wins are assured for Robert and Alison because of their status as legend and Grammy favorite respectively, I think the wins would be well deserved on the basis of the records alone. Even if Grammy voters like to “play it safe”, this time they have a fantastic record to cling to.
May the best man win (and of course, the best man is Robert).

Monday Music offers a random Robert track for your listening interest.
Today’s song is sort of a memory on another level. I chose it because it features drummer Michael Lee who passed away earlier this week, reportedly from a seizure. Lee appeared on two tracks on Fate of Nations. On Network News he shared drumming duties with Chris Hughes. For Memory Song he is the only credited drummer.
