  • Speculation and Rumor

    September 1st, 2008 by HiBob

The official position of this website is: ManicNirvana.com will not indulge or trade in rumor and speculation presented as fact concerning Robert Plant. This has always been true here, but now it’s spelled out.

Unlike other boards or websites you may have seen, ManicNirvana.com will not take at face value news reports offered third-, fourth-, or fifth-hand. There are plenty of “facts” out there presented by someone who once dated a guy who delivered something to Robert three years ago. Here at ManicNirvana.com I check facts as meticulously as possible. I use archives, direct printed quotes from Robert, and actual first-hand reports. Second- and third-hand reports from “people in the know” don’t count as fact. We’re not the National Enquirer. If you happen to know the “person in the know” and want to reveal the source privately feel free to email me. Otherwise the item will be treated as rumor.

Guests are welcome to send in news items, but they will not be taken on face value and will be checked. When presenting a bit of news, actual names of the person quoted or the publication and date that it appeared in will be asked for. If the news item is something you witnessed yourself, you will be asked to provide the date and place that it happened.

Obviously this position applies to news items and Robert-related information. The “Tall Cool One” category is designed for pondering and wondering and hopefully isn’t being used as an informational standard.

    Avoid the Wooden Spoon

    September 1st, 2008 by HiBob

    Rules of Order

    1. NO talk of Religion
    2. NO talk of Magic or mysticism
    3. NO talk of the Occult, wizardry, shamanism, voodooism, paganism, wicca or any other alternate ways of being
    4. NO talk of politics
    5. NO disparaging comments about race, sexual orientation, religion.
    6. NO flaming or harshness against your fellow dwellers or other message boards.
    7. NO maligning of Robert, wild speculations about any dangerous habits Robert may have or musings about what dire illness you think he’s suffering from this week.
    8. NO conversations about Robert’s private life or family. These things are of no concern to us.
    9. NO Robert vs anything debates. The Robert vs Zeppelin has been done to death. This is a Robert-centric board and such comparisons are out of place.
    10. NO advertising unless it’s Robert-related items, or by special permission from the HiBob.

BONUS RULE: NO making the HiBob be a hard ass, it only makes her cranky.

The first five are usually what cause discussion unpleasantness.

What the heck is all this about a wooden spoon?!
The wooden spoon image got started in the early days, based on a story about a grandmother smacking people on the shoulder with a wooden spoon when they got unruly. So the HiBob brandishes the wooden spoon when she moderates topics. It’s just a funny. If you find this offensive in some way, your humor tank is low…

    Heavily Moderated

    September 1st, 2008 by HiBob

The Town Hall is heavily moderated to keep discussion from swinging wildly off-topic and degenerating into a chat-fest that has nothing to do with the subject which is “Robert Plant: Solo Artist”.

Unfortunately, heavy moderation is necessary because many “adults” can’t act like adults or feel that they are exempt from any sort of rules. A board without rules, sadly, turns into a place with little or no material about the subject. This is very frustrating for people who come looking for information and news.

If you don’t like the way the material is moderated or don’t like what the FAQ documents have to say, then this is not the place for you. If having to follow rules makes you upset, then perhaps you have issues better dealt with by a professional.

    I don’t like Rules, What’s your Problem?

I haven’t got a problem. I have rules. I’m sorry if rules don’t fit into your daily routine, but that’s the way it is. I suggest not reading the website at all. If the temptation is too great, drop me a line and I can gladly block the site for you personally so you won’t be tempted. ;)

You might want to check out this blog entry for more insight, and reading the rest of the SSS&Q topics to see WHY the rules are in place.

And whining about the ManicNirvana.com on other websites is tacky. Just like sending snotty emails with bogus return addresses.

    Mission Statement

    September 1st, 2008 by HiBob

ManicNirvana.com is Robert-centric. This means all solo Robert, all the time. If you want to discuss Jimmy, Jonesy or other bands or genres not related to Robert’s solo career, there are other boards more suited to you. If you feel that the Zeppelin years were Robert’s best years, then you are likely to be disappointed here. If you absolutely cannot live without discussing Led Zeppelin, then there are literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of websites, message boards, blogs and communities that focus on that subject and those might be more your style.

Though topics may degenerate into discussions about blues or influences from time to time, but they usually start out being Robert-specific. ManicNirvana.com isn’t a coffee-klatsch chat group. Personal trials and tribulations have no place here.

ManicNirvana.com is ALWAYS pro-Robert, with a positive outlook. It looks to the immortal words of Thumper for guidance when considering a posts: “If you can’t say nothin’ nice, don’t say nothin’ at all.” There is too much negativity and spitefulness on the internet already. It will not be present here. Our premise is touting the Glory that is Rob by discussing his music, his influences and his public projects.

ManicNirvana.com was created out of respect and admiration for an enduring music legend. We are first fans of his music and artistry. Many of us became fans before we even set eyes on the man. We never lose sight of the fact that Robert Plant is a talented musician who has touched many lives.

    All Robert Solo

The ManicNirvana.com motto might be: Discussing Robert Plant, solo artist (1981-Present). ManicNirvana.com is the ONLY fansite concentrated ENTIRELY on Robert’s solo endeavors. If you would like further confirmation about what “solo” means in regard to Robert’s career, look at the Nine Lives package. You will find the albums that Robert includes in his solo efforts up to 2005.

It is certainly possible to view Robert as an artist completely separate from Led Zeppelin (which was only about 11 years of his more than 40 years in the music business). He had a music career before he joined Zeppelin, and he’s had a 26+ year solo career after Zeppelin. He is now eligible to be inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist.

If you feel that everything Robert does must be compared to Zeppelin, then you are in the wrong place. If you feel that the Zeppelin years were Robert’s best years, then you are in the wrong place. However, if you feel that Robert has produced some great work on his own as a solo artist, then you are absolutely in the RIGHT place.

If you are looking for reliable news about Led Zeppelin topics, try Tight But Loose.
