Blogger Morgan Young in “On the Flip-Side” examines “Gone, Gone, Gone” from the perspective of the original Everly Brothers version. Young also examines Robert’s stylistic changes on the song, writing in part:
My paradigm of appreciation for Robert Plant changed in one instant. Plant’s vocal style has been totally contradictory to that of the Everly Brothers. Plant is famous for big, rounded, swoops to hit the note he is seeking. I think he would tell you that. But on this song — and the album — he sings in a more traditional country style — jagged, right angles. A style performed to perfection by the freakishly tight harmonies of the Everly Brothers. The change in Plant’s style on Raising Sand is a necessity because of his collaboration with country singer, Krauss. You can’t harmonize with big, looping vocal swells. You need to hit the note and hit it hard and fast. Plant still gets in some of those swells on this song in between harmonies, but for the most part, he is sticking the note nicely.

Blogger Jane Roper, writing for Babble.com, is interested in music that her children can listen to and like, but that aren’t really children’s songs. Gone Gone Gone is on her list:
But I’m also increasingly interested in identifying songs that aren’t really “kids’ music” per se, but that the girls like. We’ve hit on a few big winners so far: One is “Gone Gone Gone,” from Raising Sand, the Allison Kraus and Robert Plant collaboration album. I really dig this album, and this song in particular. Plant lets a little bit of that old-time Zeppelin wailing rip and it makes me ever so slightly weak in the knees. It’s also got a really good driving beat. When I play it in the car for the girls, I do this sort of dorky air-drumming and sing “boom boom boom, boom boom boom,” along with the percussion. It caught on quick with Elsa and Clio, who started doing their own little air-drumming move and began referring to the song as “Boom boom” and, later, “Chicka boom.” (A little cross-media confusion there.) Actually, they started requesting this one so much that I actually did get a little sick of it. Almost.

George Varga, writing for signonsandiego.com had praise for Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’ Grammy performance. He writes:
Plant and Krauss gave the penultimate performance of the night, duetting on two “Raising Sand” songs – the slow, spooky “Rich Woman” and the rockabilly-fueled “Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On).” The Anglo-American duo’s Album of the Year victory for a release that draws equally from vintage R&B, old-time country, blues, folk and more suggested that the 11,000 Grammy voters were unwilling to fully embrace the raw hip-hop of Lil Wayne, who had to content himself with four victories, all in the rap category.

Jane Stevenson in the Toronto Sun reports on Robert Plant and Alison Krauss rehearsing their Grammy broadcast numbers on Friday night:
IS THAT THE ROYAL WE?: Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, the favourites to win this year’s best album race for their critically acclaimed bluegrass collaboration, Raising Sand, had a grand ole time rehearsing a two-song medley on Friday night at the Staples Centre leading up to their actual performance on Sunday night’s Grammy show.
In fact, the jovial one-time Led Zeppelin singer gently chided the small audience in attendance when they politely clapped after he and Krauss performed with their Raising Sand producer T-Bone Burnett on guitar and three other band members.
“No please, please, that’s far too much,” said Plant before adding: “And next the royal family.”
The duo then ran through the slinky-then-uptempo medley of Rich Woman/Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On) one more time, after which a laughing Plant took an exaggerated bow.
