Richie Hayward Battles Liver Cancer
filed on October 4th, 2009 by Press OfficerRichie Hayward, best known for his stints as the drummer for Little Feat and Robert Plant’s 1983 tour, is battling liver cancer. Hayward learned of his condition in June after some tests.
Hayward has made his home in Canada for the past two years and lacks health insurance to pay for his needed liver transplant due to his permanent resident status. Doctors say he may be able to delay the transplant for 10 months while he waits to qualify for health insurance. In the meantime, Hayward’s medical expenses are about $5,000 a month.
Canadian based band Pacific Disturbance has started a fundraiser for Hayward and have already raised $35,000. Donations have come in from around the world, including funds and auction items from George Thorogood and Paul McCartney’s drummer.
If you would like to help with Richie Hayward’s medical costs, visit the Pacific Disturbance website. They will continue the fundraiser until the end of the year.
